In September of this year, GD launched the GD32F450 series MCU products one after another. These are the Cortex-M4-based general-purpose MCUs with the best performance on the market and, with the highest dominant frequency up to 200MHz, support complicated and advanced applications such as real-time control, high-performance computing, graphic and image display. Currently, GD has 11 models mass-produced and is going all out to prepare for full supplies. It has three different encapsulated chips (BGA176, LQFP144, and LQFP100) available for options to accommodate to diverse market demands.

In its product development, GigaDevice pays close attention to three mainstream trends, including the IoT, Industry 4.0, and smart home applications. Particularly in industrial control and IoT applications, it provides a complete range of microcontrollers. GigaDevice applications on the current market are mainly classified into industrial control, consumer electronics, and automotive peripheral applications. So, the actual purposes cover such market applications as industrial controllers, motor frequency conversion, LED graphic display, security surveillance, sensor network, UAVs, and consumer electronics, robot arms and IoT devices to meet customers’ requirements for innovative development.

Among important new applications, Hoverboard has become a hit in online sales at Amazon, becoming the No. 1 outdoor sports product in Amazon’s sales outlet rankings. As a hoverboard needs three MCU chips, millions of chips are shipped each month. Besides, thanks to applications for low-/mid-end UAVs plus the increase of innovative smart home products and home appliances, GigaDevice ships tens of millions of chips to the consumer electronics market, considerably contributing to its sales performance.

To support is volume shipments of MCU chips, GigaDevice currently adopts the Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M4 cores for the GD32 MCU family and ensures the productivity of both by using wafer OEM service from mainland China and Taiwan. As the first in the industry, it produces chips with 55nm low-power consumption processes, thus obtaining an edge over most of the domestic and overseas competitors. Its products are known for their excellent ESD and EMC capabilities and comply with industrial-grade high reliability and temperature standards and requirements. Competitively priced, it can provide sufficient production capacity and short lead-time, fully meeting market demands for mass production.

GigaDeviceThe rapid growth of GigaDevice has been attributed not only to its complete product line but also to its resilient and effective pricing strategy, which has been the main reason behind its success in the market. GigaDevice has an application support (AE and FAE) center in Hefei, China and an application engineer team with dozens of members, who can provide the most direct service to meet customized requirements and provide customers with technical support. In a typical new cooperative project, it takes about three months to deliver customized chips, which is greatly helpful in the intensely competitive IoT application market that is demanding on time to market.

GigaDevice began its deployment in Taiwan in 2014 and has since made sales to and provided technical support for its Taiwan customers. As for its overseas regional sales, the market of Taiwan is one of the fastest growing key markets for it. It achieved impressive sales of its main applications in barcode printers, scanners, sweeper robots, and LED outdoor advertisement machine display or some industrial and vehicle control modules such as on-board diagnostic. Besides, manufacturers in Taiwan are accustomed to adopting the model of “design in Taiwan and manufacture in mainland China”. In this case, GigaDevice happens to have advantages in both places. Therefore, it can easily accommodate to the essential development requirements of Taiwan customers, while the Taiwan market is increasingly important to it.

Today, GigaDevice’s MCU product line is equipped with a complete and rich link library, application routine, and learning development kit; it is already offering test chips for the GD32F450 series MCUs. In the future it will keep launching more forward-looking MCU products. It has made several product plans, such as the plan for unveiling more advanced ARM Cortex-M MCU products and nA-grade ultra-low power consumption chips, which support emerging applications of high performance and low power consumption for such new forms as wireless connections, wearable medical devices, and smart electric meters and establishing sustainable customer relations. This is an important force driving GigaDevice to further provide rich and complete product lines. GigaDevice looks forward to creating a promising future with Taiwan customers.
