EOC

Ethernet Over Cable (EoC) is an access technology based on the CATV coaxial cable network and using the Ethernet protocol, where Ethernet data is transferred via coaxial cable. Currently, there are two major categories of EoC: passive baseband EoC and active modulated EoC. A passive EoC device can work without power supply and the technology directly couples the baseband signals from the Ethernet to coaxial cable for transfer, while the device costs are low. As for restructuring, passive EoC restructuring must meet two conditions: First, data signals from the central office must reach the passageways; second, passive EoC downlink cannot have branch distributors and does not allow any extra source of interference. For this reason, passive EoC technology can only be used in the star network and is not applicable to most of the original tree networks of the radio and television system, leading to very high restructuring costs. In this case, restructuring means a new network, except that the original cable can be used to reach households.
