PON

       The Passive Optical Network (PON) refers to an Optical Distribution Network (ODN) totally composed of passive devices such as splitters without containing any electronic devices or power supplies, and it does not require any expensive active electronic devices. A PON includes an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) installed at the central control station and a bunch of auxiliary ONUs installed at customer premises; the ODN between OLT and ONU contains fiber and passive splitters or couplers.
